What does a Pelvic Health PT appointment look like?

A visit with Serene is like entering a calming, spa environment, finding a listening and compassionate ear, and leaving with a greater understanding of your body and a plan on what to do to help you meet your goals.

We start with an evaluation to get your full story and understand your symptoms, to identify contributors to those symptoms, and to help create a plan of care to meet your goal. Follow-up visits include hands-on manual therapy and guidance to retrain the brain/body, exercises to take your body from where it currently is to where you want it to go, and realistic functional tasks to fit into your every day life. Even better? You have your own cheerleader guiding and supporting you along the whole way!

A pelvic health examination may be beneficial. Your therapist will always discuss this with your beforehand and obtain your consent. Multiple options will be provided, such as just assessing as much as possible with abdominal/back/hip musculature and tissue, an external assessment to assess perineal tissues and coordination, or an internal examination to further assess the deeper pelvic floor muscles and determine how your muscles are working vs contributing to your symptoms. Remember, consent is important and you can change it at any time.

If this is a pediatric appointment, internal examinations will not be performed. Visits will be more play-based to help improve strength, mobility, and coordination to address symptoms. These visits are 30 minutes instead of 60 minutes.

Care is one-on-one in a spacious treatment space with capacity to focus on decreasing pain, calming the nervous system, or returning you to your fitness goals. We have a child’s corner for your baby or toddler so that you can prioritize getting the care you need while knowing they are just an arms’ reach away.
